La Silla Azul

A portrait of my Abuelita. Her story, like many others, is of strong women who faced hardships, such as war, with grace and perseverance. Raising four small children, living in a war zone as a single mother, and successfully immigrating to the United States. Although my Abuelito stands next to her, her story lies in the objects around her. Her faith, which she holds above all else, her green thumb, the story of her immigration, her love for music and singing, and her desire to have those around her well fed. Her portrait is an example of the triumphs and strength of women’s lives. Stories that are often overlooked throughout history and in our modern day.
